The Township of Malahide, named after the historic Malahide Castle in Ireland, was incorporated on January 1, 1998 when the Township of Malahide, Village of Springfield and Township of South Dorchester amalgamated.
The Township is perhaps best known today as the home of the Ontario Police College. This former R.C.A.F. training base is also the location of an extremely popular migratory bird viewing area managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
